Panikker, and eventually led to the rise of almost 8000 rural libraries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the early 1950s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">M.P. Paul and others formed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sahitya Pravarthaka Cooperative Society<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3ykSxkG\"> DC Kizhakemuri<\/a>, the visionary of D.C. Books, was one of its founding members. He was the one who paved the path for Paperback Revolution in India. D.C. Books created history by selling the classic <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3uVRbKP\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chemeen<\/span><\/i><\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thakazhi_Sivasankara_Pillai\">Thakazhi Shivasankara<\/a> Pillai con<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sisting 264 pages at a price of Rs.1.5 per copy creating a spark in the mid-1950s \u2013 \u201cPaperback Revolution\u201d as the publishing industry calls it. <em>Chemeen<\/em> sold over 11,000 copies and it holds the status of being the most renowned book to be translated in English. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chemeen <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the first Malayalam novel to receive the Sahithya Academy Award. The book was first translated into Czech.
